16th May 2016: Kampong 3 won by 3 wickets, by Akshay Patil

It was a cold and cloudy day with the sun playing hide and seek. In short, not perfect weather for cricket. The toss was won by the home team Kampong and, unsurprisingly in these conditions, they chose to bowl first.

Hengelo 1 opened with their regular openers Abhishek and Erik. They took charge and got the start Hengelo wanted, scoring 36 runs in the first 4 overs. Everything was looking great until Erik was out to Kampong's opening bowler P. Schröder. Anirudh came in at 3 but was soon out to the same bowler after scoring 8 runs, while the total score was 52. At the other end, Abhishek was looking solid but lost his concentration against D. Sharma, which cost him his wicket. He had scored a quick 22 runs which includes five 4’s. The next batsman was Adityha who scored 10 runs and gave away his wicket to D. Sharma. At this point, Hengelo was in trouble despite a score of 65 runs in just 10 overs. The next pair was Krishna and Johan who played good cricket and put together an important partnership of 59 runs. After that, Johan was out for 17 runs. The next batsman was Prithvi who didn’t last long and got out for 4 runs. On other hand, Krishna scored 26 runs which turned out to be the highest score for Hengelo, but he couldn’t convert it to a big score and gave his wicket to Sinha. In the end, Hengelo was bowled out for 161 runs in 31 overs which includes 39 extras.

For Hengelo, Rahim and Akshay opened the bowling. Rahim bowled in the right areas and made the opening batsman struggle with his pace. But at the other end he didn’t get much support from Akshay, who bowled too many wides despite getting the first wicket in 4th over. Due to too many extras, newcomer Safi came on and bowled really well on a good length. This earned him his first wicket of the season. With Safi consistently hitting the right areas, he got his 2nd wicket (P. Schröder) thanks to a good, quick catch by Rahim in the slips. In the middle overs, Anirudh and Erik bowled really tight overs which forced the batsman to take some time to adapt. At this point, the momentum was with Hengelo as Erik got the wicket of D. Sharma, who looked like finishing the game quickly. Kampong had managed to score 113 runs in just 22 overs and due to some hard work by N. Pearce at one end, they were in the game untill he was caught behind for 63 in Akshay's second spell. But by then it was too late for Hengelo. Kampong won an exciting game though Hengelo managed to get 7 wickets in 32 overs. For Hengelo, the pick of the bowlers were Rahim and Safi, (8-36-1 and 8-39-3 respectively), followed by Erik (4-13-1) and Anirudh (6-26-0). Akshay bowled 6-34-2 which includes 11 wides. In total Hengelo gave away 34 extras, as well as dropped catches and misfields; clearly the reason they lost their first match of the season. But after this they should learn from their mistakes, work on their weak areas and bounce back in the upcoming match where they play Quick Nijmegen 2 on 22nd of May 2016.
